Head Coach Bio
Chijo Takeda will take over the reigns as head volleyball coach at La Salle starting with the 2016-17 Fall season. Throughout his 20+ year coaching career, he has provided quality skill instruction to club and high school teams while encouraging them to enjoy the game.
High School coaching
After getting his coaching start as an assistant at Tualatin High School in 1993, Coach Chijo was the Wilsonville High School head coach for three seasons, from 2005 to 2007. He led the Wildcats to a co-league championship in his first year, league championship in his second—the first outright league title in school history, and undefeated league title in his third. He also guided the team to the OSAA 5A Volleyball State Championship to finish 4th in 2007 and 3rd in 2006—the highest tournament finish in school history. Meanwhile, Chijo won the 5A Coach of the Year award for two consecutive seasons.
USA Volleyball Girls Junior Club coaching
Coach Chijo has been coaching the Portland Volleyball Club (PVC) 12-Pink team—the “Pinksters” for 11 years. Under his guidance, the Pinksters are the 2011, 2012 and 2015 CEVA Regional 12U Gold Champions and has played in the championship match for eight of the last 11 seasons. In 2010 and 2011, his teams played in the USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championships. They also finished as a champion, finalist, or division winner at the USA Junior National Championships, Bay View Classic, Volleyball Festival, NCVA Cal Finals, Willamette Volleyball Classic, and NW Juniors Memorial Day Classic. Coach Chijo was selected as PVC Coach of the Year in 2010 and the recipient of the Award of Merit in The Art of Coaching in 2016.
